Hi Swampy,
It will be impossible for anyone here to say anything about your rug
without seeing it, and then the person would have to hedge his/her
comments. Rugs are a field in which even very experienced persons,
including specialist auction houses can be misled concerning the
authenticity and age of an item. When the US boykotted trade with
Iran in 1979 or 1980, production of rugs of those types increased in
Pakistan and India.
Where do you live (region, nearest major city)?
Why do you think your rug is from India?
What is your idea of "very old"?
Where did you get the rug?
What are its dimensions?
Condition? pile worn, holes?
I was going to ask some more stuff, but first try to find something similar
on this site: http://www.cloudband.com/
On this site, you shouldn't find anything but quite old rugs.
I clicked on the advanced search, which showed 734 items under rugs
and carpets and 70 from South Asia, When I clicked there, the numbers
changed, showing 62 from India and above only 3 as rugs or carpets,
and none of these is probably what you have (a double bag, a cotton
dhurry and a camel band).
So, go hunting. Don't worry that there are very few prices shown,
that's the business, it's a bazaar - website too, with items presented
by many dealers.
When you click on the thumbnail photo, you will get more, larger pics
and some details, which have the nice feature that you can click on
"more like this" and maybe speed your search. Note the CB numbers
that seem closest, and I will be happy to look at them.
What do you mean with "genuine chinia"
I will be interested to see what you find. Of course if you find
something more like yours browsing other sites, all the better. Maybe
the name of something you find on cloudband can help a wider search,
but a name can be misleading too.
And don't forget my questions.
Good hunting! |
