Look up 'In place of strife'

1968, Barbara Castle
- then look at Ted Heath's pathetic attempts to regulate with 'Wigs'

Economic theory is rather dangerous
- for what it is worth I doubt that Maggie gave a toss about 'theory'
- her beef was 'who rules ?'

"... justified by economic theory?!
Whether Maggie carried or not, her policies were indeed justified by
economic theory, that of a free market. Of course, there are other
economic theories that desagree maybe - economics is an art, not a
science.
The economic upturn in the early-mid 1980's demonstrate that she did
the right thing.

An economically precise answer would be :-

It gave the labour market a good taste of the Phillips Curve

Personally I think it was overkill
- before 1980 shutting factories was shameful (corporately)
- after then, it was done with relish
