I balk at the idea of guns for elephants, even though I favor that
amendment granting "the right to arm bears."

Well ... if it is the 8.8 cm gun of a German "Elephant" tank
destroyer, I guess that most people will not be able to hold it with
one hand. Besides, it is not covered by many gun licenses.

That's right, kemlo. The heavy tank destroyer Sd.Kfz.184 Jagdpanzer
Tiger (P) "Elefant" was known as "Ferdinand" in the beginning, after
engineer Ferdinand Porsche who constructed the running gear. After the
"Ferdinands" had suffered heavy losses at the battle of Kursk because
they completely lacked close defense weapons, machine guns were added
to the remaining Sd.Kfz.184. The tank destroyers were then sent to
Italy, where they were known under their new name "Elefant".

I believe the elephants sometimes like to wear Groucho's pyjamas.
