I just mailed my 2001 federal tax return and am owed a sizable refund.
April 15 2005 was the last date to submit a return to get a refund
from 2001. However, I mistakenly included the signature page of my
state return in the mailing, and signed that page instead of the
federal one.

What should I do at this point? Should I mail in another return or
wait for them to respond?
Will I get my refund, or will they say because of no signature it's
not valid and thus I'm too late for the refund?

By the way - My state filing for Massachusetts never got filed on time
because of this last minute mix-up, but I did mail the W-2s for the
2001 Massachusetts return on time on April 15 2005, with a little note
that had my return address and a signature, saying I was filing 2001
MA electronically. I am thinking of telling MA that I tried to file
the 2001 MA after I mailed the W-2s on April 15, but that it wouldn't
let me do so. What should I do with this one and how does it impact
the federal one?

Call your tax office an ask their advice. It's the easiest thing.
Most probably, they will ask for the missing documentation. But I
think it will be at their discretion.
