I would say to my friend, "Hey. I just noticed that NO ION is a palindrome." |

I would tell my friend s/he should look up self ionization of water on Google. I'd go on to point out that even absolutely pure water has a nonzero electrical conductivity, which implies that it contains charged particles that can form an electrical current. |

Ask your friend if the glass of water is in a dark room, held at Absolute Zero. |

Your friend is wrong. Water dissociates itself to H3O+ and OH-, called self dissociation of water. The equilibrium constant for 2H2O --> H3O+ + OH- is 10^-14. This means that [H3O+]=[OH-]=10-^7 |
