I have made rough estimates of the size of the various
police-authority forces operating in New York City having the right to
issue tickets or "violations" for various reasons, including the
number of different types of vehicles used by them. I would like my
estimates to be turned into close approximations of the actual numbers
involved. I am giving my estimates to assist the researcher(s) in
allocating their time and determining where or whether the figures may
be available. My estimates are:
25,000 blue uniformed policepersons and white-shirted officers
10,000 brown uniformed traffic enforcement agents
1,500 green or brown uniformed sanitation policepersons
5,000 plainclothes detectives
1,000 NYC police academy trainees (white hats)
500 Taxi & Limousine Commission law enforcers
2,000 sheriffs and marshals
100 NY State Police stationed or operating in NYC
25 state liquor authority personnel stationed in NYC
4,000 police cars (radio patrol cars or prowl cars or squad cars or
blue and whites)
2,000 unmarked police cars
500 motorcycles
500 motor scooters
500 trucks
500 bicycles
200 buses
100 police horses
50 horse trailers
100 armor or command or emergency vehicles
I plan to use these statistics in a continuing public performance.
