I need a list of all English-language financial newswire providers in
Europe only. Examples include Reuters and Bloomberg.

Newswire is important, not newspaper. Although Dow Jones has a
newspaper they also have a newswire in Europe, so that would be
relevant as well. I'm looking for an exhaustive list; it doesn?t
matter how big or small the provider is.

Hello ryguy12:

Thanks for the interesting question.

I need a couple of clarifications before I can proceed:

1. When you say "in Europe only", what do you mean exactly. Most
newswires are available worldwide these day. Are you looking for ones
that report on European news? Ones with head or branch offices in
Europe?

2. Do you want English-language ONLY companies, or are ones that
provide in additional languages OK as well?

3. When you say "all" and "exhaustive", that can scare a lot of
researchers off. It is next to impossible to find "all" of anything. I
was able to find the following in a few minutes:

Reuters
Bloomberg
Dow Jones
Caplin
Thomson
MarketXS
Finextra

I could continue along these lines, given you clarifications, and find
as many as I could - if that would suffice.

Looking forward to your replies.

A clarification to my second question:

2. Do you want newswires that publish strictly in English-language
ONLY, or are companies that provide services in English PLUS
additional languages OK as well?

1. Europe means the newswire is delivered to an end-user/buyer located
in continental Europe (a wealth manager in London for example).

2. English means the content is delivered in the English language, not
German for example.

3. "All" may be a bit over zealous - just absolutely as many as you can find :)

Yes, please continue with your list - financial news only. Looking
forward to seeing your results!

Hello ryguy12:

Thanks for the clarifications. The trickiest part of this task has
been decided what *rates* as a bonified financial newswire and what
doesn't.

I've done a lot of searching for you and have created the following
list of companies with what I believe are valid, original-content
newswire services that can be delivered to you in the UK. There are
not as many as you might imagine, since there has been a lot of
consolidation in past years. (In fact, the largest companies - Dow
Jones, Reuters, AP, etc. - seem to have swallowed up most of their
smaller competitors.)

In compiling the above list, I've removed the following type of companies:

* Companies that just distribute press releases and other financial
information for other companies verbatim, but don't create original
news.
(e.g., Hugin - http://www.huginonline.com/)

* News wholesalers, companies that merely "rebroadcast" information
from other newswires.
(e.g., MarketXS - http://www.marketxs.com/, Infotecnet -
http://www.infotecnet.com/)

* Large news distributers that aren't really *newswires* but are more
like online newpapers or TV stations.
(e.g., CNBC - http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/home.asp, The
Financial Times - http://news.ft.com/home/uk)

I used quite a complex search strategy (and a lot of surfing) to come
up with this list. A few of the many search strings I used on Google
were:

* financial newswire
* financial newswires
* financial newswires Reuters Bloomberg "dow jones"
* financial newswires site:.uk
* "financial newswire" -dow -reuters -AP
* "financial newswire" -dow -reuters -AP -bloomberg

I hope this has been of help to you. Please let me know if you need
any further clarification of this answer before you rate it. I'd be
happy to continue to work on this with you if you feel there is still
work to be done.

Thanks.
