I find it very tactful that no one has commented. Come on, just give
us one "fond" nickname. Please :-)

Legoff --

The French have long used "Les Amers" for Americans. I recall seeing
it in the post-war writings of Simone de Beauvoir. "Amer" in French
means bitter (or bitters in the plural). I suspect with the lack of
"entente" that we've seen politically there are much better
plays-on-words, especially when the American president's name is a
root-syllable for several French words.

There's an interesting way to do the Google search here -- and I'll
use the French example because I have no Italian:
-- Google Advanced search
-- Enter these two search terms like the following:
americain argot
expression americain argot
-- check the box for French language only

Best regards,

Thank you for your responses. When I used the word "fond" it was for
lack of a more explicit term. Perhaps "neutral" would suffice, on the
same order as "brit" or "limey".
