Opera 8 with Knoppix

I reecently installed the latest Knoppix ISO and I can not install Opera -
up to now, for all previous versions, I had downloaded the static RPM
Opera file and double-clicked it and the install was done right away.

On the latest vesion of Knoppix, trying to install Opera 8 static rpm file,
I get the message set:
rpm: to install rpm pavckages on Debian sysyetms, use alien.
error: cannot open Packages using db3 - no such file or directory
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

Help (please don't throw answer with the assumption that I am highly
conveservent in Linux commands and processes).

Thanks.
