It seems that no one wants to answer my questions.  Can someone tell
me what a more appropriate payment is?  $10?  $20?

According to this Blog, US has ~9% of all Skype users. All Skype users
is estimated at >30 million, so that means that there are around ~2.7
million Skype users in the US.

I'm not sure if this information is accurate or not.

Recently, Skype made an announcement that they had 1 million Skype out
users. Not sure if you can translate that into ~90,000 Skype out users
in the US or not, though it might be a valid estimation.
