As a small headhunter, I find it hard to find skilled IT professionals
in the remote areas of Denver, Portland, Minneapolis. Any suggestions
for resources besides dice, craigslist and monster?

Hello tinypatient-ga,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "remote areas of Denver,
Portland, Minneapolis." Do you mean the suburbs of these cities? Do
you mean that you consider these cities to be remote from cities more
favored by IT professionals? What kind of companies do you serve? What
kind of candidates do you work with? The more you can tell me about
your situation, the more likely that I will be able to find the
information you need. I look forward to your clarification.

Portland isn't remote. It is a 15 minute drive. <g>

You're talking about relatively hot job markets to my way of thinking.
Things are icy cold in Cleveland, meanwhile. Weather and job market.
No wonder you're not turning up anyone local to those markets.

You may want to look at www.linkedin.com to build your network and
find candidates. The site is free in beta. Jobs and resumes can be
posted. Contacts can be maintained.

Once you've loaded some contacts and found contacts that are managing
their contacts online you can solicit individuals out to the fourth
level of contacts. You (0th) - Your Contacts (1st) - Their Contacts
(2nd) - ....

I like to use www.directemployers.com and www.careerbuilder.com.
Advance Communications owns a number of newspapers, including the
Oregonian / OregonLive.com and a job hunter can obtain job listings
from across the affiliated organizations (such as The Plain Dealer /
Cleveland.com).

If you like the advice I want to mention I'll relocate to any of those
places on a temp or perm basis. Are we allowed to post email addresses
here? And here is a question back to you: how does a headhunter obtain
all these great leads in 'remote' locations? Is it a matter of
networking or talking to home office HR folks?

Good luck.
