I need this by Saturday April 23.
I?d like some real interviews from magazines, newspapers, etc. I'd
like quotes and real stories of leaders of different management style
talking about the superiority of their management styles. I?d like
two stories (A and B, which are described below) for each management
style. I?d like to hear the leaders talk about they way they do
things and why it is the right way to manage. I?d like to hear them
state the case for their way of doing things. I?d like it to be
aggressive with some examples from their own business for why it is
the right way.
Ideally, the interviews have them talk about a specific business (I
assume their own) with details and color that one can get an idea of
the type of business they are in. These short interviews need to be
examples of successful and respectable leaders (no pimps, etc).
I have assumed that I would like some stories from famous people, but
if any Google researchers out there want to write a story about a
leader/company they know that fits what I am looking for ? that MAY
work. If you do write it and I want to use it, you will give me the
rights to use it in the book. I?ll acknowledge your contribution in
the book though. A colorful story is key. Each one (parts A and B
together) should be about a page (single spaced). They can be from
any country. I think the fee of $200 might be too low for this so I
can break into two pieces, if needed. I guess there is an ability to
tip.
1. A. Decisive Visionary -- A leader who can see opportunities on the
distant horizon and take specific steps to get there. They are both
intuitive and action oriented. They have a creative side that focuses
on the big picture, but do not dwell forever in blue-sky discussions.
They can make things happen. They like small informal teams. They
are perfectionists and hover over everyone to make sure all the pieces
come together well.
1. B. When a Decision Visionary gets into trouble because the worlds
they have created gets to complex to handle informally?
2. A. Collaborative Planner ? A leader who can understand many details
and analyze information thoroughly to develop a plan of action. They
carefully inventory relevant objective facts, the feelings of others,
and can focus the organization on a solution that makes the most of
what they have. They deal with the issues at hand (as opposed to
issues n a far horizon) and can build a sense of teamwork and
collaboration to make what they have better ? more effective and more
efficient. They make the trains run on time.
2. B. When Collaborative Planner spends too much time on the set up
and not enough time getting out and doing ? pressing the business into
the marketplace ? they wait for all the light to be green before
leaving the driveway.
3. A. Decisive Commander ? An action oriented leader. Someone who
gives specific objectives and then expects precise results. They are
hands on leaders and sometimes their hands are around their
subordinate?s necks. But they can get jobs done. They tend to have
many people reporting to them, but basically give orders. They can
focus on sales and production issues to support sales.
3. B. When a Decisive Commander fails to develop a more sophisticated
management team to handle a world that that gets more complex with
competition and issues related to product customization and long-term
planning.
4. A. Analytical Planner ? These people are very thorough and go by
the motto, ?Prior planning prevents piss poor performance.? They
gather and analyze information (preferably objective information)
before making decisions. They let the data drive their decisions for
the most part. They like hierarchies and can get many different
complex functions to come together to create a unified and robust
solution.
4. B. When the Analytical Planner gets stuck in a rut. The world
they have built a complex system to handle has changed and not longer
responds well to the clever and elaborate system that was developed
for it.
5. A. Collaborative Visionary ? A big picture thinker but one who
work with and through people to get things done. They think the
culture of an organization helps guides its actions and really care
about the development of its people. They like to empower small teams
within their businesses to be opportunistic and use company
capabilities to take advantage of opportunities they see in their own
part of the world/market/etc.
5.B When the Collaborative Visionary is unable to focus their
business to overcome a new crisis or challenge. The diffuse team
structures they create become unmanageable in this new situation. |
