I was suprised that the UK and other Commonwealth countries have no extradition treaties with Canada. Could it be that the Commonwealth has some other mutual arrangement? |

Some of the 'nations' listed are actually parts of other countries, e.g., American Samoa. The Northern Mariana Islands, as I recall, are in 'free association' with the US, and is probably covered by US treaties. Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are incorporated territories of the US (they send delegates to the Congress!) and extradition to Canada is absolutely covered by the US treaty. Federal States of Micronesia are also in association with the US, as I recall; the Marshall islands are also US, but I forget the exact constititional relationship. Svalbard and Jan Mayen Islands are part of Norway. St. Pierre and Miquelon as well as Martinique are constitional parts of France (they have delagates in the French National Assembly); Reunion Island, as I recall, is also a part of France. The Faroes are federated with Denmark. I believe Heard and McDonald Islands are attached to Australia, as may be Wallis and Futuna Islands (but I don't know; I'd have to google). Macao, I believe, is still a Portuguese colony. With the Holy See, extradition would be covered by the Vatican's relationship to Italy via the Lateran Treaty. |
