Question ID: 513194
I am looking for a place where I can get a complete ! list of all
Spanish leisure (Sun & Beach) hotels.
Note I am not intrested in partial list from the Global Distribution
Systems (GDS) or from sites that link to these (like travelocity
expedia etc etc)
The most complete list I have found was from www.spain.info but that
site only offres the results in pages of 10 results. In short I need a
complete list that I can build a database with. (ideal would be a CSV
(excel) file. I have written www.spain.info (spanish tourism
organization) but no answer yet...

So in short I am looking for a site (database) that has this
information. I assume there must be somebody that has or sells this.
Also I have looked at the european statistics site but I don't seem to
be able to download this micro data from them.
I imagine organizations like "the chamber of commerce" or the main
hotel association that grants the hotel star classifications would be
able to help.

Can you clarify what you mean by leisure/Sun and Beach hotels?

A list of Spanish hotels might well be available. But I'm not sure it
would be sortable by "Sun and Beach" hotels. The more we understand
what you need, the better are the chances we can find it for you.

Clarification

1) I need a complete list of spanish hotels.
-- this means complete. not just the hotels that have registered with
some service to be listed, but the hole list of businesses that are in
the busines of renting out rooms to guest to sleep, or business that
on their tax form identify themselves as hotels etc etc.

2) now my specific interest is for Leisure hotels, but I realize that
some leisure hotels will also list themselves as business hotels and
some business also as leisure. Perhaps the easiest is to define with
regards to location. If their is a field that I can use to help
identify this with great otherwise the COMPLETE list of spanish
hotels will do.

So to reiterate I need a COMPLETE list. So please explain why you
think the answer you will provide will be the complete list i am
looking for.
Not I found a list that appears to be complete at www.spain.info but
is difficult to work with as it diplays the results in 15 at a time
with over 2000 to go...

If I can still clarify more please let me know. regards

I can direct you to a site that lists more than 1,800 hotels in Spain.

The listings look like this:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

GRAND BAHIA DEL DUQUE, ADEJE *****
- PLAYA DEL DOQUE, ADEJE, CANARIAS 38670 SPAIN
Tel:+34 (22) 71 30 00 , Fax:+34 (22) 71 26 16

--------------------------------------------------

GRAND HOTEL SAMIL, VIGO ****
- AVENIDA DE SAMIL 15, VIGO, GALICIA 36208 SPAIN
Tel:+34 (86) 24 00 00 , Fax:+34 (86) 24 19 00

----------------------------------------------------

HOLIDAY INN, MADRID ****
- PLAZA CARLOS TRIAS BELTRAN, 4, MADRID, MADRID 28020 SPAIN
Tel:+34 (1) 45 68 00 0 , Fax:+34 (1) 45 68 00 1

----------------------------------------------------

All 1,800+ listings can be accessed at once...that is, they appear on
the screen as one l-o-o-o-n-g list, which you can copy and export into
plain text.

It is probably a manageable task to convert the list into spreadsheet
format. However, I'm afraid I cannot offer to do this for you as it
would take considerably more work than could be covered by the current
price that you've set for your question.

However, the text list itself is readily available.

Let me know how you'd like to proceed on this.

I have done a lot more searching tin the mean time as well.
Thus far I have found that the spanish tourism office at
www.spain.info has a very complete database with over 7000 hotel
entries. However as I explained this is only viewable in pages of 15
or so.
I have also been able to retrieve data from the GDS Global
Distribution Systems (that many other Merchants online connect to).
They frequently have aproximately 1700 or so entries.. So I am worried
that this will be a list retrieved from one of the GDS systems.

If it is not and you can state the origin of the data I might still be
intrested, but I am not intresetd in GDS data.

Regards and thank you so far for your efforts.

There's no way for me to know if the data I can point to is or is not
the same as the GDS list you have.

I already provided an extract of the information for three hotels in
Spain -- please check to see if these three are listed in your
dataset, and if they are, whether the information (address, phone,
etc) is identical.

If the listings are the same, it is probably the GDS data that you
have already. If the listings are substantially different, then it is
probably a different (but overlapping) dataset.

Up to you as to whether you want to proceed or not...let me know.

P.S. I forget to mention that the dataset I can point to is sortable
by a wide variety of variables -- location, number of stars, types of
amenities available, cost, whether there's a swimming pool, and so on.

And one more thing...

I came across another database with an accessible list of more than
2,500 hotels in Spain, although the listings themselves are rather
brief, and look like this:

Adeje Tenerife - Fiesta Paraiso Floral Hotel - Avenida Adeje 300 5 Urbanizaci
Aguilas - Cala Real - C/Aire 99
Aiguablava - Parador - Platja D' Aiguablava
Alarcon - Parador - Avenida Amigos De Los Castillos 3
Alayor - Sol Milanos Pinguinos - Playa De Son Bou
Albacete - Los Llanos - Avenida De Espana 9
Albacete - Nh Albar - Isaac Peral 3

The use of dashes in the listings should allow very easy importation
into a spreadsheet.

Is that of interest?

Tomorrow I will get the list from the GDSs (Global distribution systems)
Then I can compare.
I will get back to you tomorrow ASAP. At this time I am not sure if
the information is usefull. As I explained in the question I needed to
get a complete as possible list that was not sourced from one of the
GDS systems.

If you are not able to verify the source of the data (ie if it is GDS
sourced or not) I will need to attempt to do this myself by the
comparison of the few entries that you shared. Still then I know
nothing about the how current th edata is etc etc. In short although I
appreciate your efords I am not sure if it is useful yet.

Bart,

If you can tell me more about the GDS data that you're getting (what's
the name of the database, or of the supplier), then perhaps I can
check it against what I've found already.

Hello Bart,

Thanks for getting back to me...glad to hear you received your GDS.

Here's the information about the lists we've been discussing.

For the first one, head to this link:

http://worldhotelsyellowpages.com/findhotels.asp

Select English as your language.

Select Europe from the 'Continent' pull down menu, then select Spain
from the map or menu.

On the next page, no need to enter anything...just select "Search".

It may take quite a while for the list to load, but you will
eventually get a large listing of about 1,800 hotels in Spain.

The other similarly-large list can be accessed quite easily at this link:

http://www.hotels.byguide.com/hotel/spain.asp

I trust these lists fully answer your question along the lines we've
been discussing. However, please don't rate this answer until you
feel you have everything you need. If you would like any additional
information, just post a Request for Clarification to let me know how
I can assist you further, and I'm at your service.

All the best,

"La guía Michelin" is the best spanish guide for hotels and restaurants.

They publish one paper guide all year with the best restaurants,
hotels, campings etc.

http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm

Try to ask them if you want.

Cheers.

what makes you say that the guia michelin is the best spanish guide for hotels????

what hotels are included?
I think I was clear that I wanted the most complte list..
www.Spain.info I think is more complete. but I am still investigating.

But sure many travelers (on Michelin tires) like the hotels and
restaurants suggested by the guia.

Loles, If you know something I don't know please reply and I will pay too.. ;-)
