I'm on Mac, OS 10.2.8. I use Apple's Mail 1.2.5 to retrieve my POP
mail. I just started using Gmail as a POP mail account, but I had
thousands of existing messages through another POP account that were
already in my inbox. Many of these messages were unread, but I had
downloaded them to my computer already. Since I had no further
messages that I would be downloading using my old POP account, I went
into preferences, selected the old POP account, and chose "REMOVE".
The pop-up I encountered said "This will erase all mailboxes for this
account, but will not affect stored messages on the server." I
figured, okay, no problem. The POP settings and what-not would be
deleted, but all my messages, read and unread from years past, would
remain in my inbox. As soon as I hit OK, ALL of the messages
disappeared. The only mailbox that was left was the Google POP account
I had just set up. My question is: how do I recover these messages?
I've been trying to locate this vanished inbox, but to no avail. It
disappeared justlikethat, and it would have been a multi-gig file.
It's not called "mbox" in my Documents/Mail folder, but I know my
computer processor, and it would have been churning for half an hour
trying to delete that many messages or a file even 1/4 that large.
Where does this file exist, how can I recover it, and can I import it
back into my Mail program? Thanks. |
