Well, if we go back to 1905 and look at the role of Government then, and compare it with now for say, the UK or the USA - it is pretty clear that Government has significantly increased its share of total expenditure - it has also rather increased its tendency to poke its nose into things Oddly enough, in 1905 'Communism' was just a theory - the Russian revolution took place in 1917 - it did not really get embedded until the late 1920's as Lenin instituted the NEP in (I think) 1923 when he realized that things were not going quite according to plan. Two World Wars did much to allow the UK and USA Governments to seize control of things - one needs a command economy when at war - Yossarian might disagree but ... |

Cmon Polly, This is your subject - and teaching a kid how to research and write an essay is not explicitly barred. Obviously that was a 'trick question' - the type my old tutor V_ernon B_ogdanor would pose Besides, it is an excellent opportunity to ask: 'was the New Deal Right' - also to blast the stupid 'professor' (<- USA promotion) who set the question. |
