This link should work to take you to the page on the New York Times's
website that will allow you to order a $2.95 download of the article:
New York Times: Abstract: It's a Flat World, After All, By Thomas L.
Friedman (NYT) 5165 words
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F00C16F93E5B0C708CDDAD0894DD404482
Just scroll down the page until you to "Buy Now" box for the article.
I read the article in the April 3 edition of the New York Times
Magazine, and I can vouch for the fact that it amounts to a cogent,
well-written summary of "The World is Flat." So that you don't have
to take my word for that, here is a link to a site that also
characterizes the article as a summary of the book:
Bankstocks.com: Random Gleanings: The New Flat Earth

Search Strategy:
I began at the Times's website, since I remembered the article, and I
located the ordering page by searching the Times archives for "The
World is Flat." I then performed the following Google search to make
sure that there wasn't an obviously better choice for an "executive
summary" of the book:
"the world is flat" "new york times magazine"
I think you will find the article to be just what you need to get the
gist of the Friedman book, and it's only 5000+ words rather than the
6000 I mentioned in earlier post.
If anything is unclear, please ask for clarification before rating the answer.
