I remember that gas stations, at least those that I normally visit,
always had pumps with a latch on the part of the pump you hold with
your hand so that you could leave the pump and do other things like
wash your windows.  No matter which gas station I visit nowadays
though, they seem to be missing?  I have searched and searched online
for the answer to this question, but I always end up with posts about
gas prices.  I'm just looking for why these were removed.  Were they a
safety thing, a governmetn thing, an insurance thing, did they waste
gas?  Please let me kow
