I want to file my own divorce in Wisconsin. This was a short marriage and even though I am disabled and became disabled during our marriage this man will give me nothing. The complication I have is that I have a car, which we bought because he totalled my car and we put the car in his name and the payments are with GMAC. I have two more years of payments with zero interest. I can not pay off the car, I am disabled and need it for dr appointments, etc. How do I continue to pay for this car and include this in a divorce petition, that he must release the title to me when the payments are completed? We also have another car in both names however, it is paid for. |

Hi... I'm not a Researcher and don't live in Wisconsin. However, when I separated from my ex husband, the car I was driving and making payments for was also in his name. The best thing to do, if he is co-operative, is for him to sign the vehicle ownership over to you. If he is totally uncommunicative and unco-operative, my suggestion would be for you to see a lawyer. Most give free first time consultations. At least, that way you will know what your rights are and what you are entitled to. Good luck, Steph53 |

Best to talk to an attorney in dealings with GMAC. Community property muddies waters of divorce for property separation. Cheeshead here that went through similar, make sure the decree spells it out clearly or you'll be back in court ASAP. |

If your looking to fill out your own forms you can check the Wisconsin Law library website: http://wsll.state.wi.us/wiforms.html However, it you need to go to bat, get a lawyer... |
