Question ID: 515098
What is the most literal translation of Aristophanes play Lysistrata?
Additionally I'm interested in creating my own adaptation so I would
like to get a list of english translations (it does not need to be a
long list, two or three would do) which are copyright free that I can
use as a base for my adaptation.

Hi,

The play and commentary translated by A.H. Sommerstein (published by
Aris & Phillips) is probably the most literal translation, though it
is not "free". You can get the play in two places online I know about.

The EServer Drama Collection
http://drama.eserver.org/plays/classical/aristophanes/lysistrata.txt/document_view

Project Gutenburg Lysistrata by Aristophanes
http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/7700

Both of those are in the public domain, so you should be able to use
these in your adaptation with proper reference.

thanks,
