ted1776 --

Annual employment totals of publicly owned companies are usually
available online. If you are interested in the total number of
employees of one particular public company during a particular year, I
could probably find the information for you, if you identify the
company. Or are you looking for something else?

I'm looking for an Internet source that I can go to to find out the
total number of employees of virtually all public companies. What I'm
after is an economic analysis of my own, comparing the profits, book
value, costs, number of employees, geographical location, industry
type, etc.

ted1776-ga,

MSN Money is the place for you:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/profile.asp

Enter the symbol of any publicly-traded company of interest into the
search box, and you'll be taken to a page chock-full of statistics
about the company.

Over on the right-hand side of the page is a box labelled "Quick
Facts", and in it, you'll find the number of employees listed along
with other data like the address and website.

I trust this is just the tool you're looking for. But before rating
this answer, please let me know if there's anything else that you
need. Just post a Request for Clarification, and I'm at your service.

All the best,
