Here is my question, I posted it to rec.music.funky, but it did not
get a single reply, so I figured I'd try out Google Answers. What is
the name, and performing group, of the song being played in the
background in the intro of the video for Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice"?
It's in the beginning scene when Snoop's "parents" are getting ready
to leave for vacation, and are telling Snoop to behave and not to have
the "Dogg pound" over when they're gone ("And don't mess around with
my 8-tracks..."). :)

The song sounds like some laid-back 70's-soul track, like the
Temptations or something similar...

Do you have a video clip or know where one is?

You can watch the video here:

It sounds like the Isley Brothers or Maze to me.

The bass line I recognize from a song titled "Walk on By." I first
became familiar with this song through the recording that Isaac Hayes
did. The bass line with the triplet figure has been sampled at least
a few times for later songs. I'm not sure if the version in the video
is the Isaac Hayes version or not, but that would be the recording to
start with. Perhaps it's been re-recorded by another artist later,
and that would be the version that appeared in Snoop's video.
Anyway...not a definite answer, but a sure starting point.

Cheers!
