Gil Ferguson retired in 1994 from his seat in the California
Legislature. He had held the seat since 1984.
There are many sources for this information about his tenure in office
and the fact of his retirement. Here are a few of them:
"Committee assignments can be important toward raising money for
future campaigns, but their influence to help constituents may be
limited for legislators in the minority party, said Gil Ferguson, a
Newport Beach Republican assemblyman from 1984 to 1994."

Angeles Times, January 19, 2005

"Ferguson finally retired, and so did Conroy after being chastised for
sexual harassment of a government employee."

It is not surprising that Ferguson decided that it was time to retire
in 1994. He apparently joined the Marine Corps in 1943, retired as a
Lieutenant Colonel in 1967 and had a business career for 15 years
before being elected to the legislature:
"In 1968, Ferguson returned to Vietnam as a Combat Correspondent and
artist. Lt. Col. Ferguson retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969
after 26 years of service. After careers as a corporate officer and
owner of an advertising company, he was elected to the California
State Assembly where he served for 10 years."

What is he doing now? Well, while he must be at a rather advanced
age, he is apparently alive, well and active in Newport Beach.
I found two substantial activities that apparently occupy his time
these days. He is "Director At Large" of an organization called the
California Republican Assembly. Here is a link to published contact
information for the officers of that organization, including Mr.
Ferguson:

Mr. Ferguson is also on the board of "The Talking Page," a literacy organization:

Finally, just to prove that Mr. Ferguson continues to be active in
community and public affairs, here is a listing of an Orange County
event that was conducted by Mr. Ferguson last Saturday:
"SATURDAY
8 a.m. Former Assemblyman Gil Ferguson will host a Principles Over
Politics breakfast at Balboa Bay Club, 1221 Coast Highway, Newport
Beach."
