Castle Connolly publishes a guide to top doctors appropriately
entitled, "Top Doctors". (website: http://www.topdoctors.com/ and also
http://www.americastopdoctors.com/- the sites are the same). Their
website informs of the methodology used in determining who the top
doctors are. A large part of this is peer referral.
It would be difficult to say which one is the definitive 'top doctor',
since the books list a number of highly qualified doctors, listed by
specialty and location. I would suggest looking under 'esophageal
disorders', 'gastroenterology','gastric and esophageal disorders' in
the 'Special Expertise Index' at the back of the book.
Furthermore, unless you are about to take a trip halfway across the
country, your best bet is to find a local doctor. Fortunately, Castle
Connolly publishes several local versions of their 'Top Doctors', such
as the New York metro area. Your nearby bookstore might have the
