Can I safely use either regular or medium grade gas in my 1998 mercedes s420?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Mobile Sources
List says,

Model Year 1998 Fuel Economy Guide.

MERCEDES-BENZ       S420      fuel type: P - premium grade gasoline
(octane number  of 92 or 93)
