As part of a media course, a friend needs to come up with a design for
a short-film archiving project. The objective is to catalog the films
in great detail on several levels. (distribution data, cast data,
story layer, film condition, source, etc.

A further level is to divide the films into scenes, then add more
detail about the contents, characteristics of the scene. (objects in
it, setting, etc.)

I gather the objective is to make the films usable and re-purposable
by allowing a searcher to find bits of film that meet their search
criterea.

A detailed list (say 10 layers and items within each layer) is what's
required. If the layer list grows, the extra effort can be paid via
the bonus system.

Hope someone can help. If I'm not asking the question correctly,
please let me know.

Can you provide an example of what you need -- perhaps the layers and
information for a single movie -- so we can get a clearer idea of what
you're friend is after?

Thanks,
