what are the advantages of a flexible and scalable IT system as
opposed to one that is not?

Not sure if it from the programming phrase.  However, the
infrastructure of the system.  I need to know the advantages of
flexible and scalable system as opposed to one that is not.  If you
could just give me the advantages of this type of systems would be
greatly appreciated.  Thank you
