Question ID: 516499
I am writing a comment about proposals to require parking in certain
kinds of new buildings. I would like to know how much space must be
allowed in toto to support each parking space. That is, how big must
the parking space itself be? How much entry/exit/ramp space in the
building/roadway space must be allowed per parking space? Are there
any other spatial ramifications on a per-parking-space basis?

I would be interested in code requirements in New York City. However,
the requirements for each space are only part of the story I am
interested in.

In fact, each parking space also demands a certain turning space so
that the car can get into the parking space. It also implies a
demand, I think, for a certain amount of roadway. I think that these
are physical constraints that are not reflected in the local codes.

All the best,

If you're already in NYC it might take you half an hour each to take
some measurements of some real-life car parks. And you'll have a
reason to believe the results.
