In 1993, the UK electronica band Hyper Go Go had a UK hit on Positiva
records with the song Never Let Go - this sampled an earlier Italian
disco record from circa 1989 which I had heard on holiday on the radio
whilst at an Italian coastal resort. What was the earlier record that
the sample was taken from?

Hello simonr99-ga,

I believe the earlier record that was sampled in this song is ?Never
Let Go? by Mickey "Mixin" Oliver. Although Mickey Oliver is from
Chicago, his music was very popular in Europe in the late 1980s.

According to Allmusic.com, Never Let Go performed by Hyper Go-Go was
composed by Bell, A./Cheese/Diplock/Oliver.

According to Discogs.com, Diplock and Bell are members of Hyper Go-Go.

Oliver and Cheese produced the 1988 record ?In-ten-si-t? which
included the track ?Never Let Go?.

MICKEY "MIXIN" OLIVER BIOGRAPHY
THE ORIGINATOR OF THE HOT MIX
http://www.turnthetablesdj.com/Biography.htm
?In 1986, the legendary label of house music, Hot Mix 5 Records was
born! It was Mickey "Mixin" Oliver (in a collaborative effort with a
fellow named Grant) who released the first song on the new label as
MG2 with "My House Is Bigger Than Your House." That initial track was
followed by Oliver's remixes for other artists on the label, including
the timeless "You Used To Hold Me" by Ralphi Rosario, and what is
perhaps considered to be Oliver's best known track to date, the
Billboard charting Speak 'n' Spell hit "In-Ten-Si-T."

As word of Mickey "Mixin" Oliver's exciting DJ style and Billboard
charting tracks spread throughout the world, his fans globally were
clamoring to see the artist in action for themselves. In 1987 Oliver
appeared in Europe for the first time, being invited back repeatedly
since, routinely booked for shows and massives in multiple cities on
the same day. Spreading house music to appreciative fans around the
world culminated in Oliver's performing at the Mecca of dance music
itself, the Balearic Island of Ibiza!?
