msconfig won't help you that much. This tool only shows a small portion of what is started. With the tool autoruns you are able to see what program automatically startup when you log in to windows. You can download is here: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml It is not easy to see what unnecessary programs eat up your ram, since it is pretty hard to know which programs are unnecessary. one thing you can do is download process explorer. (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml) with this tool you are able to see, from where a process is started. perhaps this can help you to determine which program is useless. |

Easiest way is to download a program that lets you setup which programs can start at Windows Startup. This is a program called Quick StartUp. It says the program works for Windows 2000 (2K) and it's a freeware! http://www.tucows.com/preview/400281.html |

I had the same problem. You can google "MSCONFIG Windows 2000" and vaious sites offer a program that will allow you to view your MSCONFIG (from windows XP). If you can figure out how to email me, I will send it to you. |
