I am looking for a storage box with the following outside dimensions
8"H x 8"D x 12"W The box should be farily lightweight but able to
withstand mild impact. Materials like plastic and cardboard would
work. Ideally it would be very similar to a rubberrmaid or sterilite
tupperware product (I have checked with both of those companies and
have been unable to find a match)- clear plastic with a lid with the
specified dimensions.

I do not want just a cardboard box. I do need it to be clear and to have a lid.

You've presented us with an interesting challenge, from a searcher's
point of view.

Closest I've come thus far is this:

http://www.crystalcaseworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CC-01&Product_Code=DOLL-138&Category_Code=A-DOLL

Acrylic doll display case made of optically clear, durable acrylic.
Features a sturdy black base. comes with 1 engraved nameplate.
Additional nameplates are available......Interior dimensions are
8X8X12

Does that meet your needs?

Also, there are clearly supply house that can custom-make such a box
for you, but this generally isn't very cost-effective unless you're
buying in bulk.

Let me know what you think.

The acrylic isn't really what I am after. As an alternative, if you
cannot find something pre-made, possibly a supply house that will make
a unit similar to the Sterlite or Rubbermade styles boxes, without
extreme minimums ( I a looking for about 20-30 units at the most)

Thanks for your help on this, for me "challange" has been an
understatement, I never thought I would have this much trouble finding
a plastic box.

The flexible plastic boxes with 'snap' seals need to be moulded, which
makes them expensive for short-run applications. However, acrylic
sheet can be cut and joined by solvent-welding, so if you would find a
rigid box with a lift-off lid acceptable (like a cardboard shoe-box)
then a plastics sheet worker would be able to fabricate them. They
won't, however, be anywhere near as cheap as a bulk manufactured box,
because of the labour involved.
