is rBGH the same as bovine ovaries? or is rBGH synthetic/man made?

Hi noelle77,

rBGH is synthetic.  The "r" stands for "recombinant," which refers to
the way it's manufactured, by splicing cow DNA into E. coli bacteria
and cultivating the bacteria.

rBGH is not the same as bovine ovary extract.  rBGH is similar, but
not identical, to natural bovine growth hormone, or BGH, which comes
from the pituitary gland.

All I have been able to find out about bovine ovary extract is that it
is a source of the hormone estrogen.  I haven't found any connection
to BGH.
