In searching for a new job, I often need to find the name of the
person in Charge of Marketing. For this task, I use Google Advanced
search, plug in the title and name of web site. Sometimes it works and
sometimes it doesn't. My question is: Is there a better way to get
this information online and why would a name not appear when you know
it's there? Example: I was on the sharpsec.com site and saw a person's
name in a press release (robert pleyer) . But when I did a test to
search for his name, it came up with no results. |

I just did a search, on Google, for:
robert pleyer www.sharp-usa.com
and came up with 31 hits...about the same
number you'll get if you search for his
name on the Sharp website. I don't see
the problem...

Oops, I 'misconstrued up'. I see that you want
to enter '"Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com'
and find Robert Pleyer. Well, first of all, he's
also known as 'product marketing manager':
http://www.sharp-usa.com/products/FunctionPressReleaseSingle/0,1080,194-14,00.html
...so you'd have to enter that exact phrase:
"product marketing manager" site:www.sharp-usa.com
which worked fine for me:
If you enter '"Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com',
you'll see a number of associate directors of marketing,
none of whom is Robert Pleyer:
www.sharpsec.com produces no results, so I'd stick with
www.sharp-usa.com.

Sublime,
Issue one: I was searching sharpsec.com and got no response as you've
confirmed. However sharp-usa yielded results. So that answers the
question about why would a name not come up if I know it's there.
The other part of the question was: Is there a better or an
alternative way to locate (for example) the director of marketing at a
company IF you get no result by searching a company's web site for the
title?

Well, an alternative, but not neccesarily better method,
as it's less precise, is to input the title and the name
of the company, as in:
"director of marketing" + "sharp electronics"
which produces this page:
This brings up results similar to entering the title
and the website, as in:
[ "Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com ]
...in that it yields the same listings for 'associate
director of marketing'. However, this alternative
is less precise, producing 323 hits, many of which
are irrelevant, vs 13 hits using the website search.
That's the best alternative I know, however.
If this satisfies your query, let me know, and I'll
post a formal answer. Otherwise, you may want to
leave the question open for awhile, and see what
other researchers come up with.
Love the nickname, by the way...
