Hi Mark40-ga
It is quite clear where and *when* Geoffrey Chaucer died. Chaucer had
taken residence in a house in the gardens of Westminster Abbey
(London, England) in 1399, where he lived until his death on October
25th, 1400. He is buried at Westminster Abbey. Most biographies, both
online and offline, will verify these facts. Some online ones include:

However, none of the sources I was able to find online or at my local
library drew any positive conclusions about *how* he died. Very little
is known about Chauser's private life after he moved into the
Westminster Abbey house. In fact, the only piece of *speculation* I
was able to find was:
"He therefore sent the new king a poem, The Complaint to his Purse,
which he may have written before. Whether because of it or not, he was
paid soon after but did not collect the payment himself. Perhaps he
was sick? Chaucer is traditionally said to have died on 25 October
1400 and was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey."

Unfortunately, medical science wasn't very advanced in the 14th
century and they probably didn't know how to tell the cause of death
in most cases.
If you want more information and links on Chaucer and his work, I
suggest trying the New Chaucer Society at:
