Hi geofp,

can you define what exactely you mean with "digital magazines and
newswpapers"? Do you mean newspapers with an online presence
(subscription or free)? Does this also include things like Fax
publications (like investment newsletters, etc.), CDROM publications
(mostly compilations), e-mail publications (e.g. PDF newspapers
customized to the reader), etc.?

Hi Voyager:

Magazines, meaning newsstand and trade, that are or will supplement or
replace their print publication with an electronic version of the
magazine itself (not the Website), currently most are distributed in
pdf through such services as Zinio.

Newspapers, the same, currently most are distributed in pdf through
such services as NewsStand.com.

Usually, when we refer to "newsstand" we also mean "paid." With trade
magazines the can be "paid" or "qualified" which means "free to
certain folks."

It is these two categories - current print magazines and print
newspapers (which may have pdf counterparts already) - that are the
focus. Separate from these two categories would be (1) newsletters,
(2) catalogs, and (3) brochures. Thus, pdf newspapers would be
included, but not newsletters.

Dear Geofp,

I found very little information on this subject.

The traditional magazine and newspaper publishers have numerous
channels through which they distribute their content. The
"Miscellaneous" channel is 4-7% (depending on year and type) by sales
of all channels by sales. Therefore, it would seem that the digital
magazines/newspapers market would be capped by this. I also figure
that the traditional publishers remain the dominant digital
distributors by sales of newspaper and magazines.

In your Clarification of Question it sounds like you are looking for
the new segment, of which Zinio is a major player. I found little
information on this as well, probably given its smallness and newness.

If you need information on the traditional newspapers and magazines, I
have plenty of that. Let me know if you need that.

Also, look for the following phrases to continue your search

Digital Newspaper Network
Harrington Associates
Newspaper Association of America
Oce Digital Newspaper
Media Week

I hope this helps,
Claudietta
