The only thing I've seen with a direct orollary between retirement age and age at death was a morbid bit of humor at a large aerospace company showing that if you worked to age 65 there, you'd be dead in 18 months; in other words, they'd work you to death. |

What I have heard is that a lot depends on whether the person had a life outside work before retirement. The dedicated "company man" whose life centres around his work is more likely to die early, because on retirement he suddenly has no reason for living. I guess that would make it impossible to construct one equation to fit everyone. I did have a quick look, but most of the material works from standard life expectancy tables to calculate how many years are left after retirement age is reached. |

I also saw that joke years ago; thought it was interesting; looked for a good answer to it; found nothing of interest; and decided to post the question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Life expectancy as a function of rertirement age From: wengland-ga on 07 Aug 2002 12:03 PDT The only thing I've seen with a direct corollary between retirement age and age at death was a morbid bit of humor at a large aerospace company showing that if you worked to age 65 there, you'd be dead in 18 months; in other words, they'd work you to death. |
