Greetings, In America and places in Europe where there are residents from several different countries (immigrants, or longer term temporary foreign workers), "multiculti" festivals are often arranged by towns to recognize these cultures within the community. For one or two days in a park or city square, the different national groups will set up stands to sell handicrafts or other specialties from their country, also prepapring and selling typical national foods, all around a program of music and dances in national costumes, etc., performed by groups from each nation. These different activities are arranged by the clubs or other organizations of the different national groups, maybe also religious organizations, for example, an Italian or Polish language Roman Catholic group active in a local church. It is all entertaining and interesting. The different national groups enjoy the opportunity to get together and to have the opportunity to present themselves as a larger group (rather than feeling that they are just individual foreigners), the native residents are entertained and get to try exotic foods or maybe buy interesting things that they could not find in stores, and also appreciate and recognize the cultures of the many foreigners in their community. Multicultural festivals are generally a success and serve their purpose. |

well you see.... I'm not gonna drag this out like some people so they seem like they know what they're talking about(no offence), so.... An often regularly recurring program of cultural performances, exhibitions, or competitions of all "kinds" (...if you will...) African, Cuban, Indian, Philippians come together and compete, Offer foods and wisdom And with no awards of any kind but to teach others of their history and beliefs... and to have a good time although thanksgiving is now a religious holiday to most.. if you think of why it was the Pilgrims and Indians came together on that day. There is really nothing else to say... it is what it is. |
