While windows 95 and 98 support DOS I heard that windows 2000 and
higker do not. Is that true, and if so why?

while win98 and earlier versions were shells running on a DOS
platform, windows 2000 and xp (and i believe ME as well) are a new
kernel that is actually a windows platform with an optional DOS
program to emulate old school DOS
