I just got a new Dell Dimension 8400. It came with a Broadcom NeXtreme 57xx Gigabit C cable modem driver. It works fine with my Toshiba PCX 2600 modem supplied by Roadrunner. Bandwidth is high (4146.3 kbps). But suddenly my email recipients began complaining they could not view my file attachments. I concluded (and don't ask me why!) that speed of transmission might have something to do with this issue, so I downloaded from the Toshiba site the driver made for the PCX 2600 and installed it. I then had to disable the Broadcom driver to enable the PCX 2600 to work. Although that solved the file attachments issue (don't ask me how!), my bandwidth dropped to 1220.1 kbps! Why might there be such a difference in connection speed between the two modem drivers? Roadrunner has yet to provide a satisfactory answer, so unless someone here can, I'll be scheduling a service visit. |
