A friend and myself ocassionally make prank calls to random people anywhere in the US. We tend to use soundboards, from like soundboards.com or ebaumsworld. We were wondering: is it llegal to make prank calls in the state of TX, and if so, what are the penalties for doing so? What exactly would constitute the action being illegal, perhaps if it were harrasment? What then, give an example, could be phone harassment? Anything you can find on this topic would be great, thanks. Also if we kept making the prank calls, and we used *67, what are the chances of me getting caught? |

HI, wise99. It's probably agood idea for you and your friend to find more prodcutive activities which do not involve bothering other people. If you are in an area devoid of life and culture, try TV, video games, or the internet. Or how about exploring the neighborhood on foot? That would be good exercise. |

I do not know if it is illegal to make prank calls in TX but I do know that if you are calling other states you need to be worried about their laws also. When it comes to telephone calls (this I do know) not only does the person making the phone call have to obey all the laws in the state he/she is calling from but he/she is also liable for any laws in the state they are calling to. Plus on top of all that if you are making calls that cross state lines (which you said you were) you must follow federal laws as well. |

Another thing to think about is whether or not you are recording the calls. It is illegal to record calls in some states without specifying at the beginning of the call. Since you are calling from one state to another that would make in a felony. |
