My husband and I are hoping to retire when he is 50 (in December 2005)
and would love to retire to The Cayman Islands. What is the criteria
for this and is there a limit to how long we can stay in the country
as in the States. We would ideally like to permanently reside there.
Would we be a be able to get a property for around £100000. Can you
also tell me if we would be liable for inheritance tax there. If we
needed to get a mortgage could we do it there or would it be better
done in the UK. Also what is the cheapest flight to Caymans

Hello Billie2,

No doubt, you have already visited the Cayman Islands, but here is an overview:

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/cj.html

Yes, there is a risk of hurricanes.

Here is another site that seems very helpful: real estate, residency, etc.:

http://cayman.com.ky/cayman.htm

Personally, I would think twice about moving to an island that is only
76 sq miles in area with a population of 44,000 - plus 1.2 million
tourists/yr (23,000 at any one time if they stay an av.1 wk).
But it sounds like a lovely place.

Good luck
