Scriptor-ga has proven that George G. Chamberlin served in Company K,
26th Illinois INFANTRY Regiment during the Civil War. However, the
website "Illinois In the Civil War" and the website "Database of
Illinois Civil War Veterans" do not list this veteran. Question: How
can I correct these websites ?

You didn't provide links to the sites in question.
A search for "Illinois In the Civil War" turns up
665 results, and a search for "Database of Illinois
Civil War Veterans" turns up 557 results.

So, while it's not entirely clear which sites you're
referring to, I can give you a generalized plan to
follow with the sites you have in mind.

The most likely result for "Illinois In the Civil War",
e.g., is http://www.illinoiscivilwar.org/

You just need to find contact information for the site.
A website is sometimes authored by one person and
maintained by another (the webmaster). At other times,
the author and the webmaster are the same, as is the
case with this site. Contact information for this
person is on this page:

"Many visitors have contributed information...."

"You can reach me by email at ilcivilwar@outfitters.com
As I said, I can't promise I'll respond, but you are
welcome to send me a message."
http://www.illinoiscivilwar.org/about.html

Ultimately, it's the webmaster who will rewrite the html
to update the data on a website, but contacting either
the webmaster or the author, if they are different,
should have the same outcome.

Be aware, when contacting those in charge of the site,
that many times they have created the site in their
spare time, as a labor of love, with no reimbursement
for their time and expenses. It isn't reasonable to
approach them with an attitude which expects changes
to be made immediately, or even to expect that they
will respond to you personally, or in a timely way.
Chances are that they already have a passion for
posting the most accurate information possible, and
they'll do so when they have the opportunity.

If the site above is not the one to which you were
referring, or if you need assistance in locating the
contact information for the other site, just let me
know, and I'll be happy to help.

George G. Chamberlin died in December 1864:

I would not expect a database called "Database of Illinois Civil War Veterans"
http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/datcivil.html

to include a soldier who had died during the war.

Dear fp-ga,

Perhaps I don't understand your comment, but when I use that
website, it gives me all known veterans, including those who have died
in the war. For example: Connell, George Rec Co. C 51 il us inf
iroquois co appears on this website, yet the Muster and Descriptive
Roll of that unit says he was "Killed in battle of Kenesaw Mt. Ga June
27, 1864.".
I could give endless examples such as this.
So, what are you talking about ?

                            Puzzled, W.E. Henry
