Not wishing to take the bread from the mouths of babes and orphans ... I've a few pointers (this is UK based). BarclayCard is the Barclays Bank offering using VISA VISA and Mastercard are the two main clearers (Ok, Diners, AMEX and JCB are also rans) You might like to look at the demise of Access - the flexible friend You might also like to look at the incursion of US issuers (under VISA and Mastercard/Maestro) such as the MBNA - offering substantially lower credit rates. There is also the problem of 'pseudo issuers' who look like 'Save the Pandas' but are really operated by someone else. I would look for : %age of VISA holders in the UK %age of Mastercard holders in the UK - %age of BarclayCard holders that do not bank with Barclays As for clearing, the big ones used to be: Barclay's Merchant Services NatWest StreamLine - now part of the RBS I'm genuinely interested in hearing whether things have changed. |

I also slightly missed the point of your question. By the way, giving a Researcher a low grade is really bad form - if not satisfied then tell them Mat Barrett was not stupid - he was bluntly honest, another sensible colonial is Rod Eddington - sadly we Brits cannot produce 'down to Earth' top management BarclayCard is destined not to grow - Debit cards are encouraged - you only use a Credit Card if the vendor looks suspicious - or you need short term credit Nobody in their right mind uses a credit card for long term borrowing The rates in the UK have been historically high on plastic because it was not viewed as a loan vehicle. Consider AMEX, which was until fairly recently, a charge card - get late on the payments and they would send the heavies round The real problem started when the Yanks turned up, and misunderstood what was going on. Not really a major problem, as they were tapping a totally different market. Barclaycard is not a 'real' credit card. |
