How many hotel rooms in the world ?

The most recent figure I have found comes from the World Tourism
Organization (a United Nations agency): 16 million hotel rooms in the
world.  (Other pages on the Web have smaller numbers, but they are
older figures.)

Of course, this number is constantly changing.  More hotel rooms are
built; and unfortunately, an event such as the Indian Ocean tsumani
can reduce the number of hotel rooms.  But 16 million seems to be a
good figure until the World Tourism Organization or other reputable
organization publishes a new figure.
