Aurhor Robert Parker is famous for never identifying the first name of
his detective character Spenser. I read in Amazon.com that he does
identify him in the book "God Save the Child", sort of. Here is the
quote from Amazon: "The book contains the one scene where someone says
his first name and isn't later contradicted." I can't find that scene
in the book. Can anyone else?
Thanks.

I can't help thinking the person who wrote that Amazon blurb is either
fibbing or is mistaking one of the many cultural references in the
book for Spenser's first name.

Parker has steadfastly denied that he knows Spenser's first name.
There's a lot of interesting info here, including some false alarms
related to the first name (all of which are adequately explained as
allusions to literary and cultural figures):

From a description of a 2001 book signing by Parker:

"Spenser's first name? Parker claimed/admitted that he didn't have a
clue on this. (Sometimes, though, when someone asks, he says he will
ask the questioner's first name. Then: 'What a coincidence! That's
Spenser's first name too.')"

Parker said this at a book signing in March 2005:

"I plan on writing the series until I can?t. I don?t plan to kill him
off. I don?t plan to write a book hidden away that would reveal that
his first name is Bruce, and that he and Susan have a child."
