I have a list of twelve names: Tom, Lori, Julie, Susan, Lidia, Kathy, Jo-Aynne, Leni, Kirsten, Victoria, Allen, Constance. I need them arranged in 11 sets, with six pairs in a set, and made up of unique pairs with no repetition of "partners" throughout all sets. I believe this is the largest amount of possible pairs - 66. I would like them sent to me as an xls file. For the mathematically minded, this shouldn't take long but for me, another story. |

It's very simple: 1 - 2 3 - 4 5 - 6 7 - 8 9 - 10 11 - 12 where odd numbers are women (or men, if you wish ;) ). all we need is to shift in cylce right (or left) column. like this: 1 - 2 (4 6 8 10 12) 3 - 4 (6 8 10 12 2 ) 5 - 6 (8 10 12 2 4 ) 7 - 8 (10 12 2 4 6 ) 9 - 10 (12 2 4 6 8 ) 11 - 12 (2 4 6 8 10) then: first set: Tom - Julie Lori - Susan Leni - Lidia Kirsten - Kathy Allen - Jo-Aynne Constance - Victoria second set: Tom - Susan Lori - Lidia Leni - Kathy Kirsten - Jo-Aynne Allen - Victoria Constance - Julie 3 set Tom - Lidia Lori - Kathy Leni - Jo-Aynne Kirsten - Victoria Allen - Julie Constance - Susan 4 set Tom - Kathy Lori - Jo-Aynne Leni - Victoria Kirsten - Julie Allen - Susan Constance - Lidia 5 set Tom - Jo-Aynne Lori - Victoria Leni - Julie Kirsten - Susan Allen - Lidia Constance - Kathy 6 set Tom - Victoria Lori - Julie Leni - Susan Kirsten - Lidia Allen - Kathy Constance - Jo-Aynne |

This looks great but I can't quite understand the formula you laid out. Would you be willing to finish the list - you went to six sets but there should be 11, right? Thanks! RC |
