Dear experts,

I have an ongoing problem with all of my jeans. There seems to be
excess friction between my hips that causes the denim to thin and
eventually rip producing big ugly holes.

Is there any way that I can avoid this? The problem exists with all
kinds of jeans, cheap and expensive.

Please help!

Thank you.

Hello gramafonov-ga,

I too have also had this problem, and I have a solution to the issue.
I noticed a while back that any jeans I had would do this, but my nice
pants (wool, lined, etc) would not.

So, I tried wearing a pair of biker shorts or nylon gym shorts under
my jeans, trying to recreate the lining of my nicer pants. And, it
worked! It allowed the jean material to slide around, thus reducing
the place where it rubbed, and no more holes or wear ( or it took a
LOT longer)

I hope this helps.

The number one thing that will prevent strain, thinning, and ripping
is to buy jeans where the denim hasn't been treated. For example, many
modern jeans are faded with chemicals that weaken the textile. So, buy
the darkest denim you can find.

The second thing that helps prevent your problem is to buy a larger
size jean. If your jeans are tight, the fabric is under a great deal
of strain, and is much more likely to thin or rip.

Good luck!
