I am putting a scietific paper together on the mechanism of action of
omega 3. I am particularly interested in teh effect of omega 3 on APO
C1, APO C3, CRP, Homocystein.

I am also looking for information on the exact mechanism of omega 3 on
teh TXA2 receptors in its anti arrhythmic action, and also how it acts
on teh Na+/k+ pump?

Hi there -

From what I can tell, your paper is greatly needed - all of my sources
say something to the effect that "more research is needed into the
mechanism of action".

For instance, from Micromedex/Martindales:
"The mechanism of action is not entirely understood, however, possible
mechanisms of action include the inhibition of acyl coenzyme
A:1,2-diacylglycerol acyltransferase and increased peroxisomal
beta-oxidation in the liver. In addition, omega-3-acid ethyl esters
may diminish the synthesis of triglycerides in the liver because EPA
and DHA are poor substrates for the enzymes responsible for
triglyceride synthesis, and because EPA and DHA inhibit esterification
of other fatty acids (Prod Info Omacor (R), 2005; Donadio et al, 2001;
Harris et al, 1997)."

and from Lexi-Comp:
"Mechanism has not been completely defined. Possible mechanisms
include inhibition of acyl CoA:1,2 diacylglycerol acyltransferase,
increased hepatic beta-oxidation, or a reduction in the hepatic
synthesis of triglycerides."

Sorry to be unhelpful!
