Hi grthumungous:
Yes, the fact that U.S. Armed Forces are missing their recruitment
targets certainly seems to be all over the news these days.
While the Army and the National Guard have recently raised their
maximum recruitment age from 34 to 39, the Marines are still sticking
to 34.
Military targets older recruits

Quote: "Battered by an unusually tough recruiting season, the Army has
raised the maximum age for recruits for the National Guard and the
Army Reserve by five years, from the current 34 years old to 39. The
change gives the Army access to another 22.6 million potential
enlistees.
The change for the Army Guard and Reserve does not affect recruits for
the active-duty Army, the Marines, the Navy or the Air Force, all of
whom must still be 34 or younger. Recruits for all branches must be at
least 17 to sign up."
Heroes of the week: "Older" couple join the Marines

Quote: "It's unusual for married couples to undergo basic training at
the same time, and even more rare for those as old as the Kygers, who
needed age waivers to enlist. Recruits between 28 and 34, the maximum
age for new Marines, must have such waivers."
Search Strategy (on Google):
* marines recruitment
* marines recruitment "maximum age"
* marines recruits "maximum age"
I hope this helps.

I also performed searches under Google News (news.google.com) to make
sure that there hadn't been any change in the past few days/weeks. |
