I need a list of the software companies (approx 600) that were
effected (banned) by the April 18, 2005 change which prohibited bundling of
spyware/adware on Download.ccom.

I haven't come across a list of files specific to the recent
Download.com delisting event, but have found a good database of
spyware / adware infested programs (over 1500), if this would be of
use to you.

Does this list include software that is bundled with 3rd party
spyware/adware type products?

Steve,

There is a list of bundled software/adware/spyware that -- at one time
-- was fairly comprehensive:

http://www.pestpatrol.com/Support/About/About_Products_Incorporating_Spyware.asp

with more than 700 programs listed. But as you can see, the list is
dated from 2000, and this particular list hasn't been updated since as
far as I know.

However, I found a much more up-to-date list (from December 2004)
containing more than 800 software products that contain bundled
spyware or other bad stuff. The list is specific to program downloads
(freeware, shareware, etc) rather than to programs that intrude into a
PC through other means.

Would you like me to post information about accessing this list as an
answer to your question?

Let me know.

I'm really looking for the Download.com list. But if you can,
why don't you send me some samples of this list that you came accross,
maybe it would be helpful to me and we could work something out.

Steve,

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll post some of the list tomorrow (I don't have it in front of me
right now). In the meantime, I'll unlock this question in case
another researcher can find the download.com list for you, or offer
another route to the information you're after.

Stay tuned...

I was also curious of this list. I wrote the media contact of
CNET/Download.com and she responded stating that this list was not
made public and that she could not provide such a list. She also went
on to clarify that the adware/spyware issue has always been there
policy and it is nothing new.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...

Jason
